How the estimate works. AI models read text in chunks called tokens. A rough rule for English prose is about 4 characters per token; code, data, and non-English text can differ a lot, so treat the count as an estimate, not a measurement. Prices are ballpark public pricing as of October 2026 and change often — check each provider’s pricing page before budgeting. Output tokens (the AI’s reply) usually cost more than input tokens.
