About

Welcome to The Plain Manual.

Software should make sense to everyone — not just engineers. The Plain Manual explains software and AI tools in plain English, for normal people who just want to get things done.

Every article starts from the same question: what is this thing, really, and do you actually need it? We answer it the way a patient friend would — no jargon, no hype, no assumptions.

The Plain-English Verdict

Every review ends with a Plain-English Verdict: a short, jargon-free answer to the question you’re really asking — “Should I bother with this?” No hedging, no hype, no fine print.

How we cover tools

  • Hands-on trials: we try the free tiers ourselves before writing about anything.
  • Prices verified at the time of writing: we check pricing pages and plans when we publish.
  • Re-checked dates: every review carries a “last verified” date, and we revisit popular pieces to keep them honest.

Corrections

We get things wrong sometimes. When we do, we fix it and say so on the page. If you spot an error, email us at hello@theplainmanual.com and we’ll look into it promptly.

The Plain Manual is written by The Plain Manual team — no personal brands, no influencers, just clear explanations.

Who’s Jack?

Portrait of Jack Marlow, the writer behind The Plain Manual

Jack Marlow is the friendly explainer behind every guide on The Plain Manual. He takes software and AI tools — the confusing, jargon-y kind — and turns them into plain English for normal humans. He’s basically the friend who actually reads the manual so you don’t have to.
